Steele Crowned Curation King @ WMG
We are pleased to report that industry vet Michael Steele is embarking on his exciting new music industry adventure today — Steele is joining Warner Music Group (WMG) as Director of Playlist Programming & Curation. In this newly created position, Steele will call upon his impressive radio programming background and his giant head full of useful musical knowledge to create a wide variety of custom, multi-format playlists for WEA artists for use at the major streaming services — Apple, Spotify, Amazon, Pandora, etc. Steele will oversee an elite team of Account Managers and will be based in the WMG building on Nashville’s Music Row. He reports to Lisette Paulson, WEA Vice President of Global Digital Optimization.
Steele relocated to Nashville in October 2015, and over the past few years has been involved in a number of interesting projects, including working with Eric Murphy‘s experiential ad agency Pop2Life on several big brand music integration campaigns in New York City, and he designed and executed an Alternative radio music showcase in Louisville for CO5 Music called The Gathering Along The Whiskey Trail.
Earlier in his career Steele served as Executive Producer/Creative Director for the syndicated Billy Bush Show and Director Of Music Programming & Creative Content for Rick Dees Weekly Top 40. Among Steele’s radio programming highlights — he was the original PD of Entravision Alternative duo KDLD & KDLE (Indie 103.1)/Los Angeles from 2003-2007. He was also VP of Music Programming and Creative Director of KIIS-FM/Los Angeles from 1999-2003 and MD of KFMB (Star 100.7)/San Diego from 1996-99.
