Stones Postpone North American Tour
• The Rolling Stones on Saturday announced the postponement of the North American leg of their No Filter stadium tour, which had been scheduled to kick off in Miami on April 20. According to the announcement posted on the Rolling Stones’ website, 75-year-old Mick Jagger “has been advised by doctors that he cannot go on tour at this time as he needs medical treatment. The doctors have advised Mick that he is expected to make a complete recovery so that he can get back on stage as soon as possible.”
In a statement, Jagger said, “I’m so sorry to all our fans in America & Canada with tickets, I really hate letting you down like this. I’m devastated for having to postpone the tour but I will be working very hard to be back on the road as soon as I can. Once again, huge apologies to everyone.”
While the nature of Jagger’s medical ailment was not revealed and a rep for the group had “no further information,” a source close to the situation tells Variety that Mick is “not bed-ridden” and in fact he was seen out at a Miami restaurant with band members on Friday night; that sighting was also reported in the New York Post. According to the Post, doctors “found something” that required “immediate attention” and recommended treatment at a U.S. hospital. “This is not a serious thing,” a source close to the band said.
The tour is expected to resume in three months, the source tells Variety. Tour promoters AEG Presents / Concerts West advise ticketholders to hang onto their existing tickets as they will be valid for the rescheduled dates.
