Taylor Leads 2023 VMA Nominees
• In a not-so-shocking development, Taylor Swift is heading into the 2023 Video Music Awards poised to break her own record — with the nomination of “Anti-Hero” for Video of the Year, Swift is on track to be the first artist to win the honor four times, beating the record she set just last year.
Swift is the only artist to have won MTV’s prestigious Video of the Year award three times — in 2015, for “Bad Blood (feat. Kendrick Lamar),” in 2019 for “You Need to Calm Down,” and last year for “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version).”
Swift, who already has 14 VMAs on her mantle, is nominated in eight categories for 2023, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects and Best Editing, setting her up to become the most awarded artist in MTV history.
Other multiple 2023 nominees include SZA with six nominations, followed closely by Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo and Sam Smith with five nominations each, while Blackpink, Diddy and Shakira each earned four nominations. According to TheWrap.com, there are 35 nominees who were honored for the first time ever, a record number in VMA history.
Fan voting in 15 categories is now open at vote.mtv.com. Voting for most categories will close September 1. However, voting for Best New Artist will stay open until Sept. 12. Nominations for for social categories such as Group of the Year and Song of the Summer will be announced at a late date.
The 2023 VMAs will roll Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 8pm ET/PT on MTV. The ceremony will be filmed live from New Jersey’s Prudential Center.
