Inspiration Flows From The Idea Fountain
• Anyone who knows and respects Julie Pilat (and there are a BUNCH of us) is certainly aware of her long and impressive radio resume that lead to her current position doing Global Operations for Beats 1 at Apple Music. However, what sets Julie apart from many other humans is her innate desire to mentor young people and to give back to her community. That explains her longtime involvement in A Place Called Home, an amazing organization that provides young people in South Central Los Angeles “love, safety, enrichment, training, and opportunities through educational programs, counseling, and mentorship.” She is also the L.A. Chapter Governor of The Grammy Board, and a volunteer at Youth Mentoring. She is pictured here with recording artist Normani at this year’s Stars & Strikes benefit for A Place Called Home.
It is in that spirit of giving back that Pilat last year launched what she describes as “a passion project” — The Idea Fountain: Life Changing Conversations. “Every month I interview someone who has changed my life,” Pilat explains. “We’re all moving so fast, and it’s easy to be disconnected. I believe it’s powerful to share positive stories and celebrate people while they are here.”
When asked about the inspiration behind The Idea Fountain, Pilat said, “Music, creativity and community have always been my three favorite things — I started The Idea Fountain because I missed interviewing people and was inspired to share life-changing conversations I have had. The most recent episode, featuring Dina LaPolt (who is married to RCA’s Wendy Goodman) is a story that not only changed my life, but could also SAVE a life. Dina, who runs LaPolt Law and represents Britney Spears, Steven Tyler, Deadmau5 and many more, had a huge health scare last year, and the way she navigated the medical system and her healing process was incredibly eye opening. Again, I think her story is filled with wisdom and hope it helps someone.”
Looking ahead, Pilat is planning to release more inspiring interviews this year. “Chet Buchanan of KLUC/Las Vegas is on my wish list,” she says, adding, “Chet plucked me out of my junior high career day class, in the suburbs of Seattle, to start working in radio at 14. Talk about life changing! And I’ve been doing it just about every day since.” We sincerely invite you to spend some quality time with theideafountain.co.
