96.1/San Antonio: Then… and NOW
iHeartMedia Top 40 KXXM (Mix 96.1)/San Antonio dove into the long holiday weekend rebranded as 96.1 NOW, San Antonio’s No. 1 Hit Music Station. The station celebrated its new direction with a full weekend of commercial-free music and Justin Bieber concert tickets. “We are so excited to welcome 96.1 NOW to San Antonio,” said Matt Martin, President of iHeartMedia Austin-San Antonio. “96.1 NOW matches the city’s beat and is now the city’s number one hit music station! Our listeners will enjoy the music and talent, which continue to reflect our vibrant home of San Antonio!”
PD Russell Rush commented, “We are so excited for a new era of Hit Music in San Antonio! 96.1 NOW will revolutionize San Antonio radio, giving listeners what they want, when they want it! NOW is the station playing more hit music with less commercials, more new music faster, keeping tabs on what’s trending in and out of S-A, and of course, rooting on our Spurs — always! Welcome to NOW!” RAMP later caught up with Rush, who shared his big-picture strategy behind the rebrand, as he told us, “San Antonio is changing, with a million more people expected over the next 20 years… the majority of which will come from outside the market. This reflects who and what we are for years to come as the CHR leader in San Antonio!”
Despite the snappy new name, the 96.1 NOW jock line-up remains the same — The Kidd Kraddick Morning Show rolls from 6-10am, followed by Michelle Fay in middays, Mr. Russell Rush driving you home from 3-7pm, and EJ wrapping up your day from 7-midnight.
