A Younger, Faster, Stronger FOX
• Effective at 6am Monday, Connoisseur Classic Rock WFOX (95.9 The FOX) serving the Stamford/Norwalk, CT area, has contemporized its format and rebranded as “Fairfield County Rocks,” now focusing on the biggest rock bands of the late ’80s, ’90s and ’00s. The new 95.9 The FOX will now focus on core artists like Pearl Jam, Guns ‘N’ Roses, Nirvana, Def Leppard, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sublime, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Mötley Crüe, Linkin Park, etc.
As PD Kevin Begley explains, “The Stamford/Norwalk market, even with the bleed-in of New York City radio, is completely underserved with the next generation of Classic Rock. The new version of 95.9 The FOX will supply that demand for those huge rock hits of the last 30 years.” OM Keith Dakin commented, “It was time for 95.9 The FOX to say goodbye to the ’60s and ’70s and really embrace a great collection of rock music of the last few decades. Beyond just the music, we will continue to do what we do best which is to be at every major community and charity event in Stamford/Norwalk as well as provide news and information when needed.”
As Dakin later explained to RAMP, “The new version of 95.9 The FOX will move the goal posts for Classic Rock. We are ditching old school Classic Rock bands like Zeppelin, Hendrix and Fleetwood Mac. Like our sister station in Long Island, The Shark, we are embracing the next generation of classic rock with Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Foo Fighters.”
While the FOX’s music may have changed, its personalities won’t — Allan Lamberti, Cari Edwards and Dakin will continue to hold down their current shifts in mornings, middays and afternoons, respectively.
