Alpha Media Helping Furloughed Listeners
• Fredericksburg, VA is less than an hour south of Washington, DC, which is currently suffering from the lingering effects of the longest government shutdown in history. Keenly aware that many of their listeners could be adversely affected by the shutdown, Alpha Media’s Fredericksburg cluster — Country WFLS, Rhythmic WVBX (Live 99.3), Classic Rock WWUZ (96.9 The Rock) and News-Talk WNTX has created a web page containing a growing list of businesses from the Fredericksburg, Northern Virginia and Southern Maryland areas that have generously stepped up to assist federal workers during the shutdown.
Many area businesses are coming together to help the community during this time in need by providing free or reduced fee meals, services, groceries and even temporary employment opportunities. The list is posted on the stations’ websites and social media pages, and the best part is, it continues to grow every few minutes.
Beth Vickers, Market Manager of Alpha Media, Fredericksburg, commented, “The Washington, DC market is severely affected by the furlough. We feel Alpha Media Fredericksburg has a duty to provide support and information to government workers and their families during this time.”
WFLS Content Director Bill West remarked, “We reached out to our listeners with on-air announcements and social networking to help us create a web page which spotlights area businesses who are offering products and services to government employees and their families. The response from our market has been incredible and that web page list continues to grow.”
