• iHeartMedia News-Talk 700 WLW/Cincinnati announced that Thom Brennaman will anchor the station’s new morning show, weekdays from 5-9am ET, starting Monday, April 7. He will succeed the retiring Mike McConnell, whose last show is Friday, April 5.
Brennaman (left) brings more than three decades of broadcasting experience to 700 WLW mornings, including 30+ years announcing Major League Baseball games, most recently as a member of the Cincinnati Reds’ radio and television broadcast teams. He was also an original member of the NFL on FOX broadcast team, contributing over 25 seasons. He also called the first game on the Big Ten Network and several National Championship games.
Early in his career, Brennaman covered morning sports for Jim Scott at WLW. He returned to the station last year hosting different timeslots, he now takes the reins of morning drive.
“Thom Brennaman is a seasoned broadcaster and native of Cincinnati,” said D.J. Hodge, Division President of iHeartMedia Cincinnati. “His familiarity with our audience, professionalism, and deep local ties make him the perfect voice to lead 700 WLW’s mornings.”
Brennaman remarked, “It’s an incredible honor to step into the morning show role at 700 WLW. To follow in the footsteps of someone like Mike McConnell, who’s been a trusted voice in this community for decades, is both humbling and exciting. I look forward to starting each day with our listeners and continuing the station’s legacy of delivering informative, entertaining and impactful programming.”
Mike McConnell (left) first joined 700 WLW in the mid-’80s and did middays until 2010. He returned in 2014 and began hosting mornings in 2015. Hodge added, “We thank Mike McConnell for an absolutely brilliant career with more than three decades of dedication to 700 WLW and the community. He leaves behind an incredible legacy, and we wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.”
“It’s been an incredible journey and a true privilege to spend so many years on the air with WLW listeners,” said McConnell. “I’ve loved the conversations, the laughs, and the opportunity to be part of this community every day. I’m proud of the work we’ve done and excited for what lies ahead.”
