KRTY-FM/San Jose Signs Off June 17

• The management of Empire Broadcasting’s 33-year-old Country 95.3 KRTY/San Jose confirmed that Friday, June 17 will be its final day on the FM band as the station’s sale to Educational Media Foundation becomes final ahead of its inevitable flip to Contemporary Christian.

In a video posted to Facebook, KRTY morning co-host Gary Scott Thomas confirmed the station’s impending FM finale, stating, “We’re no longer identifying as an FM come June 17.” The good news is, KRTY will remain alive and well as a streaming entity (with its existing staff) at KRTY.com, and Thomas also promoted an upcoming post-FM visit by recording artist Elle King. You might notice that KRTY’s logo has already been updated to omit the FM frequency.

• In early April, shortly after the KRTY sale was announced, Alpha Media anticipated this upcoming FM format hole and flipped Classic Hits 94.5 KBAY/San Jose and AC 92.1 KKDV/Walnut Creek, CA to Bay Country, now simulcasting on both South Bay signals.
