Meet Rochester’s Own Starsky & Hutch
• It’s certainly been an eventful few weeks for iHeartMedia Rochester, as Dominic “Zakk” Zaccagnini was named PD of Hot Talk WAIO (Radio 95.1) & News-Talk WHAM 1180/Rochester and Talk 570 WSYR/Syracuse.
On top of that, Radio 95.1 recently underwent several major personnel changes, starting with the launch of Newman & The Mayor from 9-11am, featuring Jeremy Newman and longtime Rochester radio vet Pete “The Mayor” Kennedy, and the debut of a new afternoon drive show, Rizzo & Jeff, comprised of Rich “Rizzo” Deaver & Jeff Daly.
Amazingly, it didn’t take Rizzo & Jeff very long to personally involve themselves in their new community, thanks to a real-life crime they solved! On their ride home after work from their new afternoon gig, the guys witnessed a man shoplifting some items (retractable leashes, to be specific) from a local Pet Supplies Plus. Thinking quickly, they fired up their phones and went live on Radio 95.1’s Facebook feed, documenting their dramatic pursuit of the fleeing suspect through a densely populated neighborhood. After only nine minutes, our radio crimefighters caught up to the guy and got him to admit to his illegal action. Later, after a celebratory shower, Daly told RAMP, “Not only are we here in Rochester to make people laugh but to also keep the streets safe.”
Fun Facts: Daly (right) is the artist formerly known as “Rat,” who was teamed up for years with Josh “Puff” Foreman as “Rat & Puff” in nights at WFLZ/Tampa, afternoons at WIOQ (Q102)/Philadelphia, and mornings on the former WDZH (98.7 AMP Radio)/Detroit. Rizzo (left) was originally with The Todd Show at WPLJ/New York and met Daly when he joined The Rat & Puff Show at WDZH. And now, you are up to date.
