Merry Eclipse-mas™!!
• The great state of Oregon is bracing for the massive (temporary) influx of at least one million tourists today, as a quick glance at our official Rand-McNally Eclipse Road Map indicates that a 70-mile-wide slice of the state is perfectly positioned in the path of totality for today’s solar eclipse. And since iHeartMedia’s KKCW (K103)/Portland proudly wears the seasonal mantle of “Portland’s Official Christmas Music Station,” the station decided to take full promotional advantage of that extra captive audience, kick off the holiday season a tad early and do what comes most naturally — which brings us to Merry Eclipse-mas™!!
Starting at 9am (PT), K103 morning hosts Bruce Murdock and John Erickson will venture out of the relative comfort and safety of the studio, don their special Eclipse Glasses and bring this historic event to life from the roof of the iHeartMedia Portland broadcast complex — all while beautifully accompanied by a soundtrack of Christmas music. (That’s Erickson giving his glasses a dry run indoors before he has to use them for real. The mix will also include songs with the moon, stars and sun theme thrown into the mix throughout the morning for good measure, but with the prediction of a traffic jam to end all traffic jams, we feel that celebrating this event with beloved holiday tunes will keep road rage to a minimum and be the perfect way to celebrate Eclipse-mas™!
• In other iHeartMedia Portland news, KFBW (105.9 The Brew) will fulfill its stated mission to serve the public interest by providing a list of every available restroom along the I-5 corridor between Salem and Portland for those visitors who have to answer nature’s call while trying to get home from their various eclipse-related festivities. [HUGE thanks to our longtime pal Sooooooz-an Reynolds, Director of Marketing & Promotions for iHeartMedia Portland!]
