Sounds Insane… But It Just Might Work!

Big Jim O’Brien, host of the Big Jim’s House morning show on Beasley Classic Rock WCSX/Detroit, is thrilled to announce his third major rock icon street rebranding, as Motor City rock legend Alice Cooper joins him in person on Thursday, September 23 to officially dedicate “Alice Cooper Court” at 30712 Michigan Avenue in Westland, MI. Appropriately, in Alice’s case, the site is the location of Eloise Asylum, a former psychiatric hospital that operated from 1839 until it was abandoned (and turned extra creepy) in 1982.

The ceremony will include remarks by Big Jim and Alice, who will attend the gala unveiling two days before his performance at the DTE Energy Center on Saturday, Sept 25. The event will also feature a performance by Alice Cooper cover band, “The Nightmare,” because… well, why not?

Alice Cooper Court will follow in the hallowed WCSX tradition of christening “Bob Seger Boulevard” in Ann Arbor and “Glenn Frey Drive” in Royal Oak, MI. “From Glenn Frey Drive to Bob Seger Blvd., we’ve tried to celebrate great local musicians,” said Big Jim, adding, “But NEVER has an artist and location made more sense than Alice Cooper Court at Eloise Asylum. We can’t wait to celebrate Alice here in the Motor City!”

Scott Jameson, Beasley VP of National Content and Director of Detroit Programming, added, “Alice Cooper’s stage show features guillotines, live snakes and a strait jacket, so, it’s only fitting we honor him with a landmark on the grounds of a century-old Detroit area sanitarium. Some things just write themselves.” [Alice Cooper photos: Jenny Risher]
