‘World Cafe’ Earns Two Radio Awards
• World Cafe, the daily music and interview program produced by WXPN/Philadelphia and distributed by NPR, has been honored with two 2024 New York Festivals® Radio Awards, as announced this week.
World Cafe won a Gold award for its interview, Weird Al on World Cafe with Raina Douris, that aired in February 2023. The wide-ranging interview with “Weird Al” Yankovic was conducted by World Cafe host Raina Douris and produced by Kimberly Junod.
World Cafe also received a Bronze award for its story, Velour and Corey Fox: The All-Ages Venue and the Man at the Heart of Provo’s Music Scene, an episode as part of the show’s “Sense of Place” series about Provo, Utah that aired in January 2024, hosted by World Cafe Contributing Host Stephen Kallao. The episode was produced by Miguel Perez.
World Cafe Executive Producer Bruce Warren said, “Compelling artist interviews like this one with ‘Weird Al,’ and unique content such as our onsite exploration of the music scene in Provo, Utah are what World Cafe has been bringing to public radio listeners since 1991. We’re very proud and excited for our outstanding World Cafe team to receive this well-deserved recognition.”
Since 1957, the New York Festivals® competition has celebrated excellence in radio programs, and currently issues awards across 14 audio categories. World Cafe can be heard on 288 U.S. radio stations and online at World Cafe on NPR Music.
