Happy Retirement, Andy!
• Friends, family and current and former colleagues of veteran broadcast engineer Andy Hudack gathered on Wednesday, Sept. 7 to wish him well as he embarked on a well-earned retirement after an amazing 47-year career — the last two decades as Sr. Engineer for Cox Media Group Houston.
Hudack’s radio career started back in 1975 as many did — as a board op. In his case it was for Houston’s “Disco 94, KRLY,” (now KQBT) running American Top 40 and Sunday morning public affairs programs. Hudack later went on to work his engineering magic at iconic Houston radio brands KIKK, KODA, KRBE and KKBQ, along with the Houston Oilers, Houston Cougars and Houston Texans’ radio networks.
While Hudak had the ability to master just about any engineering job he was assigned, it was his innate ability to fix things on the fly that earned him the nickname “MacGyver.” As an on-site remote engineer, he was without peer. Among his many awards, accolades and recognitions over the decades, Hudack was a 2015 Inductee into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame. Here is a video of his TRHOF introduction and emotional acceptance speech. [Special thanks to Josh Holstead, Director Emeritus, Texas Radio Hall of Fame]
