Williams: 1, COVID: 0
• We couldn’t be happier to report that our friend Greg “Hitman” Williams, longtime Brand Manager and morning co-host on Entercom Rhythmic KDGS (Power 93.5)/Wichita, KS is well on his way to making a full recovery from COVID-19 — a bout so serious he spent five days in the hospital, on oxygen, battling a life-threatening case of bilateral pneumonia. As we recently reported, Williams was released from the hospital on Sept. 14 and feels well enough that his doctors have given him the green light to resume his morning co-host duties, although he’ll be working remotely until next week. “My oxygen levels and all other vitals are perfect and where they need to be,” he said.
Williams described the harrowing ordeal of fighting off the coronavirus, which attacks its victims in different and wildly unpredictable ways. “All I can tell you that no one person could ever begin to describe or tell you what it’s truly like,” he said. “Only a person who has gotten this horrible virus knows that it’s ten times worse than anything you ever heard about. This thing literally tries to squeeze the breath out of you. It was pretty scary for a while with the pneumonia and fatigue. I would not wish this on my worst enemy.”
While he is feeling better, Williams has noted some lingering effects, as he related, “The short term memory loss is real, and I get tired a little quicker than normal. Doctors tell me that all of that will go away in time.”
In closing, Williams said, “I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers — it means so much to my wife, myself, and family. As radio professionals we are all part of a special family. We always come together when times are tough. That’s one of the reasons why I love what I do.” Williams’ medical journey was also covered by “a local television station” — NBC affiliate KSN-TV.
