Booker Added To Entercom Layoffs
• The list of radio pros laid off or furloughed by Entercom during the COVID-19-generated downturn continues to grow — the latest high profile name added to the list is Chris Booker, a veteran of Top 40 KAMP (97.1 AMP Radio)/Los Angeles for the last decade, who has exited. According to Variety, which originally broke the news (and confirmed by RAMP with Booker), his last show — prerecorded — was Thursday, April 2, the day that the news of Entercom’s mass layoffs was made public.
Earlier in his career Booker famously worked at the late WXRK (92.3 K-Rock), the original WNEW and Z100/New York as well as WIOQ (Q102)/Philadelphia before moving to Los Angeles in late 2009 and debuted in middays on AMP Radio in January 2010. He later moved to afternoon drive for several years and took over the morning show in October 2019 after the departure of Edgar “Shoboy” Sotelo.
Booker was also a correspondent for Entertainment Tonight, a regular presence on MTV and VH-1 and has co-hosted the popular Perez Hilton Podcast With Chris Booker since July 2015. Having been in this business long enough to know how things work, a philosophical Booker told Variety, “There are bigger problems in the world than Chris Booker not working tomorrow. I will miss my interactions with my audience, but onward and upward.”
• We understand that Booker’s co-host Chelsea Briggs was also released, along with members of the digital team and promotions department. Stay tuned for further developments.
