The Machine Still Running Klein-less

UPDATE: Thursday, Friday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday… tick, tick, tick… Five days have now passed since Kevin Klein was scheduled to debut in mornings on Entercom’s Sports-Talk-Rock-Comedy hybrid KEGY (97.3 The Machine)/San Diego, but the corporate fallout from Klein’s now infamous promotional tweet tying his new show to someone jumping off the Coronado Bridge refuses to dissipate.

Not a promising start for the new radio flagship of the clearly irritated San Diego Padres, whose Executive Chairman Ron Fowler told the San Diego Union-Tribune the team would reevaluate its radio relationship with The Machine by the end of this week, once the Padres’ opening home stand against the Rockies is complete on Thursday.

But wait… there’s more… a recent story in The San Diego Reader may indicate further problems for Klein and Entercom — that now tainted photo of the bridge used by Klein to create his meme was apparently used without permission from the photographer. Jesse Cuevas, who operates the photo website ConvexCaptures.com, told the Reader he was not contacted about using his photo. “It’s a horrible way to use it, connecting it to suicide,” Cuevas said. “I think it is a serious issue. This all has personal meaning to me. I have been told that because it was used in this way, there is no way I could ever sell for anyone else to use.”
