AccuRadio Debuts ‘Dislocated’ Channels
• Back in March we told you that AccuRadio, music streaming’s only all-human-curated major music website, had invited temporarily “dislocated” radio programmers to create their own unique music channel, and make a little money in the process. No longer constrained by commercial concerns, this was an awesome opportunity to build the station you’ve always wanted to program — with no limitations. We are pleased to report that an impressive number of radio pros submitted some great concepts, and last Friday, AccuRadio began rolling these channels, starting with The Crossing and Country Music SHEroes.
The Crossing is described as a Christian channel featuring Pop, Rock and Hip-Hop titles. Developed by Mark Blackwell, who worked at KyXy/San Diego for nearly 40 years, The Crossing will target a younger audience than other Christian radio formats. Country fans have expressed a desire to hear more from the great female artists of Country music, and that’s where Country Music SHEroes shines. The channel was created by Ryan McCall, a 30-year veteran of WGLR/Lancaster, WI, which beams into Dubuque, IA. In the weeks to come look for AccuRadio to debut more diverse new channels featuring Gen X-focused Alternative, Pure Funk, a channel playing the true Top 40 of the moment and many more unique creations.
Each guest curator who built a channel received a $300 stipend. Once their channels launch on AccuRadio.com, five $1,000 awards will be awarded to guest curators based on the following criteria: 1) Channel with the most listening in its first 30 days; 2) Channel with the most user “favorites” in its first 30 days; 3) Most creative channel; 4) Best single-genre channel, and 5) Best multi-genre channel.
