Bloomington Finds Its Voice
• Lots going on this week at Sarkes Tarzian’s heritage News-Talk WGCL-AM (1370/98.7)/Bloomington, IN, as 1) the station rebrands as “Bloomington’s Voice 98-7 WGCL,” 2) hires new PD/morning host Kent Sterling, and 3) introduces a revised weekday line-up.
“WGCL has such a rich heritage of serving Bloomington and South Central Indiana,” said Sterling, whose extensive programming career includes WIBC, WFNI & WXNT/Indianapolis, WGN/Chicago, and WXOS/St. Louis. He added, “I applied for a job at the station when I was a student at Indiana University. Being astute judges of broadcasting, they understood I was a work in progress. Now I get to come back to Bloomington’s Voice without the rough edges and serve so many listeners. It’s a dream.”
Sterling (left) also anchors Sterling In The Morning, followed by The Ramsey Show from 9am-noon, WGCL also picks up the Indianapolis-based Tony Katz Today weekdays from noon-3pm. Katz said, “My shows in Indy have been growing for years. But thanks to the team at WGCL, we now have an extension of my midday show in Indiana. I can’t express my appreciation enough to them and the great people of Bloomington for welcoming me with open arms.” Katz hands off to Glass In The Afternoon from 3-6pm, and WGCL also features news from market vet Diane Daily and sports with hall-of-fame broadcaster Joe Smith.
