Bob Waugh Signing Off From WRNR
• UPDATED EMAIL ADDRESS: After a storied 43-year radio career, the last 18 years as OM/PD of influential Triple A WRNR/Annapolis, MD, Bob Waugh announced he’s hanging up his headphones and signing off from the station at the end of this month.
“It’s been a pretty wild ride, and definitely a satisfying career,” Waugh commented. “I’m so grateful for all the relationships I’ve had and still have with some of the most influential people in the industry, and for the opportunity to forge friendships with a wide range of artists from Brandi Carlile to Elvis Costello. It was always my love of music that drove me to radio… never the other way around.”
Waugh started his career at WLIR/Long Island in 1978 and was a key player and air personality in helping to develop the station that “Dared To Be Different.” In 1985, Waugh moved to the late, great WXRK (92.3 K-Rock)/New York and hosted a weekend/overnight swing shift, preceding The Howard Stern Show.
In 1991 Waugh joined critically acclaimed Alternative WHFS/Washington, where he initially hosted the morning show and later became APD/MD. His innate ability to welcome and so effortlessly interview artists became widely recognized across the industry. He then moved to a less demanding daypart to focus on the development and execution of the renowned HFStival — one of the largest Alternative music festivals in the country. He joined Steve Kingston-owned WRNR as OM/PD in 2004. Waugh is pictured (left), lovingly wedged between U2’s Adam Clayton and The Edge.
Waugh remarked, “I have some important family obligations that I need to focus on. I also want to take some time off to travel with my daughter before she begins college in August. But after a short hiatus, I expect to return to the fold in a new broadcast and media capacity of which I am very excited. This is surely not the end of my radio career but rather the beginning of a brand new chapter.” Bob’s last day at WRNR is 2-22-22. After that he can be reached at bobwaugh726@gmail.com.
• The intergalactic search for Bob’s successor is now underway. Until a suitable candidate is found, a certain Mr. Kingston has graciously volunteered to “step in” to keep the wheels turning.
