Boomer Upped To OM Of Cumulus Indy
• Cumulus Media has elevated Christopher “Boomer” Layfield to Operations Manager of the company’s six-station Indianapolis group. Layfield had served as one of two OMs for the cluster until January, when JR Ammons was named OM of Audacy Kansas City. Layfield will continue to program Country WFMS and AC WNTR (107.9 The Mix), while now annexing operational oversight of Top 40 WZPL, Classic Hits 104.5 WJJK, Active Rock WNDX (93.9 X) and CBS Sports Radio affiliate Sports-Talk WXNT-AM 1430.
In making the announcement of Boomer’s swell upgrade, Chuck Fredrick, VP/Market Manager of Cumulus Indianapolis, said, “Boomer has earned this opportunity to lead the talented people who produce the most dynamic and entertaining shows every day. Our future is bright, as our audience growth will only accelerate with his leadership.”
Doug Hamand, VP of Programming Operations, remarked, “When we were lucky enough to get Boomer to join our team as OM over WFMS, WJJK and WNDX, I thought, ‘Wow, we just got so much stronger in Indianapolis!’ Now to elevate him to lead the entire station group, including WZPL, WNTR and WXNT — the whole cluster’s bar was just raised! He’s an incredible leader, a creative programmer, and the conduit to continue super-serving this successful cluster of stations for Cumulus Indianapolis.”
Layfield joined Cumulus Indianapolis in April 2018, coming off a seven-year run as PD of iHeartMedia Top 40 WHQC/Charlotte. Boomer previously spent eight years with iHeartMedia Top 40 KSLZ (Z107.7)/St. Louis. He also programmed WRVQ (Q94)/Richmond and has plugged in at KHTS (Channel 933)/San Diego, WKBQ/St. Louis and WYHY/WRVW/Nashville.
“It truly is a thrill for me to be able to work with such a gifted group of radio pros at these iconic broadcasting brands here in Indianapolis,” Layfield said. “Being given the chance to continue to lead these teams at this level is something that I look forward to making the most of, working together for the benefit of our listeners and advertisers… and having fun doing it! I’d like to thank Chuck Fredrick, Doug Hamand and Dave Milner for this amazing opportunity.” Congratulate Boomer today at Boomer@cumulus.com.
