Calgaro Traded From Brewers To Red Sox
• Now it can be told — Joe Calgaro is indeed leaving his position as Brand Manager of Saga’s heritage Rocker WHQG (102.9 The Hog)/Milwaukee and is packing up the Family Truckster for a major move to Boston as the newly named PD of Entercom Rock WAAF. He will succeed Ron Valeri, who stepped down last week after three tours of duty to launch an e-commerce business with his wife.
Calgaro started his radio career on-air in Peoria, IL in 1989. He earned his inaugural PD gig at Central Illinois Broadcasting’s WWCT (Rock 106) Peoria, IL, a nine-year run that lasted until 1999, when he was hired by Woodward Communications as PD of heritage Rocker WAPL/Appleton-Green Bay, WI.The following year, Calgaro doubled his portfolio when he launched and programmed WZOR (Razor 94.7), a run that lasted until 2012 when he landed his current gig at 102.9 The Hog. And here’s a bonus fun fact: since 1999 Calgaro has also served as the on-field public address announcer for the Green Bay Packers!
Commenting on his upcoming Boston adventure, Calgaro said, “I am truly humbled by the opportunity to lead a legendary station like WAAF. Ron Valeri and his team in Boston have set the standard for rock radio for so many years. It’s such an iconic brand with larger-than-life personalities and a storied tradition of excellence. It’s an honor and a privilege to be entrusted with continuing and building upon that winning tradition.”
