Calhoun Named MD/Nights @ WMZQ/DC
• Last month we reported that Corey Calhoun was leaving his post as APD and morning co-host on iHeartMedia Country WAMZ/Louisville for a new gig TBA — that mystery has now been solved, as it was announced that Calhoun is headed to our Nation’s Capital as the newly named MD and night show host on Country sister WMZQ/Washington, effective Monday, June 4.
He will report to Jeff Kapugi, RVP of Programming for iHeartMedia DC-Baltimore, who said, “Corey completes the WMZQ team. He brings a fresh new energy to the station and some great experience spanning multiple markets and formats.” Calhoun said, “What an amazing opportunity it is to be able to work in the Nation’s Capital alongside Jeff Kapugi and Ty Bailey. The WMZQ team is extremely talented and I can’t wait to do big things with them!”
Calhoun joined WAMZ in March 2015 as APD/afternoon personality and was later upped to morning cohost. He previously programmed Cumulus Top 40 WLTO (Hot 102)/Lexington, KY and iHeartMedia Top 40 WQGA and Country WYNR/Brunswick, GA. Calhoun began his radio career at WWWQ (Q100)/Atlanta as an intern for Adam Bomb‘s night show.
Back at WAMZ, Calhoun’s former morning co-host Amy Nic has moved to afternoon drive, teaming up with PD Jay Cruze as the syndicated Bobby Bones Show is now installed in mornings.
