Chiang Joins Pandora To Oversee Country
• Pandora has acquired the talents of veteran Country programmer Johnny Chiang, who is joining the company as Sr. Director of Country Programming, effective July 25. He will report to Vice President of Programming Kevin Stapleford and oversee Country music programming at Pandora, one of the most popular genres on the streaming service.
Chiang is best known for his three decades with Cox Media Group — the last 21 years as Operations Manager of CMG Houston, PD of KKBQ (93Q) and CMG Country Format Leader. During that time Chiang won numerous industry honors, and KKBQ was named CMA Major Market Station of the Year in 2014, 2016 and 2018; ACM Major Market Station of the Year in 2017 and won the Marconi Award four times (2013, 2014, 2016, and 2018).
In January of this year Chiang joined Red Street Country, a new Country imprint under the umbrella of Red Street Records, the Christian label launched in 2018 by former Rascal Flatts’ bassist Jay DeMarcus. “Words cannot adequately describe just how thrilled I am to be joining the incredible country team that Kevin Stapleford is assembling at Pandora,” said Chiang. “I want to thank Kevin and Steve Blatter for believing in me and what my experiences and skill sets can bring to the team.”
Chiang will remain based in Houston and can still be reached at johnny.c@redstreetrecords.com until July 24.
