Classix 102.9/Atlanta Adds ‘Southern Soul’
• Radio One Atlanta is thrilled to announce the exciting evolution of its Adult R&B station, Classix 102.9 (WAMJ-HD2/W275BK) — on Saturday, Feb. 1, Classix 102.9 will rebrand as “Classic R&B and Today’s Southern Soul,” featuring what it describes as “a dynamic blend of music that blends the rich traditions of Classic R&B with the fresh, soulful energy of artists like King George, Tucka, Sir Charles Jones and Calvin Richardson.”
Derek Harper, Operations Manager of Radio One Atlanta, stated, “We are happy to serve our listeners with the music they love. Southern Soul is becoming a leading music genre, and we are excited to bring it to our audience throughout the day.” Tony Richards, Program Director of Classix 102.9, added, “Southern Soul is where it’s at! We will deliver it in a fun, powerful way while continuing to serve our Classic R&B listeners.”
• Interestingly, this formatic adjustment comes two weeks after Steve Hegwood‘s crosstown Core Radio Group teamed up with Moon Beam Media & Broadcasting to launch WTBS-LP (87.7 The Vibe), “R&B and Southern Soul” via LMA.
