Condolences: Jim Trapp
• UPDATED: We keep losing good people… the latest casualty is veteran programmer Jim Trapp, who, we are told, died on Friday, Nov. 23 in Seattle after a battle with cancer.
Since November 2017 Trapp had worked for Townsquare Media as Operations Manager for the company’s Yakima, WA cluster and was acting Brand Manager for News-Talk KIT-AM, Mainstream Rock KATS and Adult Hits KMGW (Mega 99.3).
Trapp’s extensive programming resume includes two tours of duty with CBS Radio Seattle, starting with KRQI (96.5 K-Rock), which in 2005 morphed into Adult Hits KJAQ (96.5 Jack FM). In December 2011, after an 11-month stint as PD of CBS Radio Alternative KXTE (X107.5)/Las Vegas, Trapp returned to program Jack FM/Seattle. His programming history also includes the legendary WMMS/Cleveland, KZZO/Sacramento and KZON/Phoenix, and he also served as Director of FM Programming for Clear Channel Houston and PD of KTBZ (94.5 The Buzz).
Jack-FM/Seattle, KZON/Phoenix and KZZO/Sacramento were consulted by Mike Henry of Paragon Media, who said, “Jim was one of the most creative PDs I ever worked with, and easily the best writer of radio imaging. He was funny, incredibly intelligent, and had a great view of the world around him. He took care of his autistic son for many years and took him wherever he went. For several years, Jim authored The Trapp Report, which was a seminal Alternative trade publication.”
