Condolences: Mister Cee
• The family of pioneering Hip Hop DJ Mister Cee confirmed that he has died. No cause of death has been released.
Widely known as “The Finisher,” Mister Cee, whose given name was Calvin LeBrun, played a pivotal role in New York City’s Hip Hop scene, notably as Big Daddy Kane‘s DJ and a key figure in the rise of The Notorious B.I.G., serving as the associate executive producer for The Notorious B.I.G.’s 1994 debut, Ready To Die.
Mister Cee notably spent 21 years at HOT 97/New York, where he was instrumental in the early success of artists like Jay-Z, Drake, Alicia Keys, 50 Cent and many more. He went on to continue his career at Audacy’s WXBK (94.7 The Block) and SiriusXM’s Rock The Bells Radio. The Block posted this message on its Facebook page: “Our Block family mourns the loss of DJ ‘Mister Cee.’ His legacy WILL live on. Please Pray for his family, the artist community, and fans touched by his artistry and love for the culture that influenced so many.”
HOT 97 and WBLS released the following statement: “As a family at HOT 97 and WBLS, we’re deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved Mister Cee. He wasn’t just a DJ; he was a pillar of our stations, bringing joy to countless listeners with his legendary Throwback at Noon and Friday Night Live sets. Mr. Cee’s influence stretched far beyond the airwaves, shaping the very fabric of NYC’s DJ culture. Our hearts are heavy as we send our love and condolences to his family and the fans whose lives he touched through his music. Rest easy, Mr. Cee. Your legacy will live forever.”
