Condolences: Tom Teuber

• We were saddened to hear of the passing of Triple A pioneer Tom Teuber, founding Program Director of LPFM WVMO/Monona, WI, who died on Thursday, July 20 in Madison, WI. “I’ve lost a friend and a co-conspirator,” said Lindsay Wood Davis of Broadcast Management Strategies, who, in 2015, along with Teuber, launched WVMO, which one admiring consultant famously called, ‘The coolest little station in the nation.'”

Teuber originally caught the radio bug working at WRSE, the student-run radio station at Elmhurst College (now University) in Elmhurst, IL. His professional career included notable stops at WRRQ/Buffalo, WCMF/Rochester, NY, WLVQ/Columbus, and WMET/Chicago, but, according to Davis, “It was in the ‘Madison Radio Wars’ that he really left his mark, as Program Director at the original WMAD-FM, and WMMM (1055 Triple M).”

Davis added, “Smart, funny, talented, and skilled, Tom had an ear for musical talent, with a particular love for the music of the ’70s Chicago Folk scene of John Prine, Steve Goodman, et al. He learned how to make a station sound smoothly run while still exciting and unpredictable. A truly good man and a superb broadcaster. So many of us have lost a friend, and particular condolences go to his partner, Barb. A Celebration of Tom Teuber’s life is being planned. I’ll be sure to let you know the details. Good bye, Tom. Thank you, my friend.”
