Dana Cortez Show’s New Flagship: KHMX/Houston
• UPDATED: Audacy announced that Hot AC KHMX (Mix 96.5)/Houston will become the new radio flagship of the Skyview Networks-syndicated The Dana Cortez Show, as it relocates to Houston and debuts in morning drive on Nov. 4.
In late April we reported that the show, which stars Dana Cortez (center), flanked by co-hosts DJ Automatic and Anthony A, had exited its former HQ, Desert Valley Media Rhythmic KKFR (Power 98.3)/Phoenix — by mutual decision — after almost five years as the station relaunched, and later installed a local morning show.
“We are thrilled to welcome The Dana Cortez Show to Mix 96.5 and Houston,” said Sarah Frazier, SVP/Market Manager, Audacy Houston. “Dana, DJ Automatic and Anthony A bring an incredible energy, humor and relatability that resonates with audiences everywhere. We’re excited for our Houston listeners to experience the unique blend of entertainment and real-life conversations that have made the show a hit nationwide.”
“I’m so excited to wake up and connect with H-Town’s amazing community,” said Cortez, who in 2018 became the first Latina to host a syndicated morning radio show. “Sarah Frazier and [VP of Programming] Melissa Chase are visionaries, and being on the Mix 96.5 team is a perfect fit for our show’s new flagship station.”
Mix 96.5’s Morning Mix has been helmed by Jessie Watt solo since early May, when her longtime co-host, Sarah Pepper announced her departure, and returned home to Indiana to care for her seriously ill mother.
RAMP has confirmed that Watt will join The Dana Cortez Show as producer, and DCS will continue to create syndicated programming for other stations, led by their producer Chewy.
