Danny P. On The Loose
• Yet another longtime Alpha Media Bakersfield pro has been let go, part of the company’s recent round of budget cuts in several markets — RAMP has confirmed that Danny Palacios has exited as PD of Rhythmic Oldies KKBB (Groove 99.3) and Top 40 KLLY (Energy 95.3) — “Just five days shy of my 11-year anniversary with the Groove 99.3,” Palacios posted to Facebook, adding, “I was terminated during my shift (or as they like to say, ‘laid off’) on Tuesday.” Palacios’ departure follows that of longtime colleague Erik Fox, who was also released last week after 24 years in the building.
Palacios landed his inaugural PD post at KKBB in July 2013 under former owner Buckley Radio and was upped to OM in 2019, and most recently, Director of Programming last September. He previously spent four years in San Luis Obispo, CA working for Mapleton Rhythmic KWWV (WiLD 106) and Classic Hits KXTZ (95.3 The Beach). Earlier in his career Palacios was Production Director for the Wilks cluster in Fresno — [Ed. note: I was fortunate enough to work with Danny back in the day at the late, great KYNO-FM (Hot 96)/Fresno].
In his Facebook post, Palacios noted, “I want to take a moment to thank everyone who listened to me make noise every morning, and for the incredible friendships I’ve made along the way. There were many amazing people who were let go beside me, and I wish them all the best. Your support has meant the world to me, and I’m deeply grateful for it. But don’t worry — I’ve been in radio since 1986, and I’m far from done making noise. Stay tuned for my next chapter because I’m not saying goodbye; I’m saying I’ll catch up with you later.”
Going forward, Palacios can be contacted at therealdjdannyp@gmail.com or via his website, therealdjdannyp.com.
