David Corey Returns To CHUM 104.5/Toronto
• Bell Media’s CHUM 104.5/Toronto announced that David Corey is joining legendary air personality Marilyn Denis as the new co-host of The Marilyn Denis Show, weekdays from 5-9am ET, beginning Monday, Sept. 16. He will succeed Jamar, who moved to afternoon drive in June.
“David is one of my favorite people in the world,” said Denis. “I can’t wait to work with him again and spend time talking and laughing together every morning!” Indeed, this is a familiar setting for Corey, who notably served as VP of Programming for Bell Media’s 105 radio stations in Canada and PD of CHUM 104.5 from 2006-2017. He returned to the company in Sept. 2023 as Radio Programming Management Consultant.
“Returning to CHUM 104.5 is a dream come true, but to return as co-host of The Marilyn Denis Show is a true highlight of my career,” said Corey. “Marilyn became a best friend the moment I met her in 2006, and to sit next to her every weekday morning is the best way to start my day.”
“Listeners will love spending their mornings catching up with two dear friends in Marilyn and David,” said Heidi Baiden, Program Director of CHUM 104.5. “Their easy banter and genuine connection will continue to make The Marilyn Denis Show a bright and entertaining way to kick off the workday.”
Denis’ legendary radio career spans more than four decades, starting in 1976, and since then she has seamlessly balanced a busy career in both radio and television. Her television career began CTV Calgary and eventually included a 19-year stint at CITYLINE and 13 years as host of CTV’s The Marilyn Denis Show, and she has served as morning co-host at CHUM 104.5 since 1986.
Denis has been the recipient of numerous accolades, including The Rosalie Award, which celebrates Canadian women who have made significant contributions to radio broadcasting. She was also named one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 by WXN, and she’s the first female recipient of the Allan Waters Broadcast Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2023, Denis was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Canadian Screen Awards.
Corey began his radio career at the age of 17 at WXKS (Kiss 108)/Boston (which explains his early nickname, “Kid David”), working his way up to APD. After his 11-year run with Bell Media, Corey returned to Boston as PD of Beasley Country WKLB and corporate Country Brand Manager. He later served as Director FM Programming for Cumulus Detroit, overseeing Hot AC WDVD and Country WDRQ until June 2023, when Cumulus sold WDRQ to Family Life Broadcasting System. Corey returned to Bell Media in Sept. 2023 as Radio Programming Management Consultant.
Corey is understandably eager to embark on his new adventure, telling RAMP, “I haven’t been on the air since 2003 at Kiss 108, but this is probably the most excited I’ve been about an opportunity in a long time. Marilyn is a dear friend, and to work with her on air is a dream come true for me.”
