Eddie’s The One At KXOL
• We initially broke this news last week, but now, Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS) has made it official, announcing the return of Eddie Mendoza, a.k.a. DJ Eddie One to the station where he started his career, KXOL (Mega 96.3 FM)/Los Angeles, reclaiming his former PM drive shift and adding MD stripes. Mendoza originally joined KXOL in 2006, working his way up from overnights to afternoon drive, where he reigned until Sept. 2019, when he was hired by Meruelo Media as APD/afternoons across the street on rival KLLI (Cali 93.9)/Los Angeles… and now, he’s back.
“Eddie One is the DJ, entertainer and content creator who will take our radio game to the next level,” said Albert Rodriguez, President & COO of SBS. “His tremendous success across entertainment and music is testimony of his unique talent, work ethic and impeccable reputation.” Rodriguez added, “Eddie One is the absolute right talent for afternoons in Mega 96.3FM — this is an incredible match and we’re fortunate to have him on our family!”
Mendoza was born in El Salvador and arrived in the U.S. as a war refugee at the age of 11. He didn’t know a word of English when he moved to Los Angeles. He started as a club promoter in high school, handing out promotional fliers. In 2000, he launched the West Coast Street Promotions & Record Pool. He was later hired by Universal Music, Columbia Records, Interscope, Priority Records, Sony, Epic and No Limit to promote their artists, events and projects. In 2004, Mendoza joined the infamous “Heavy Hitters” DJ crew, which raised his profile and landed him jobs all over Southern California & satellite radio, and in 2006 he joined KXOL.
Juan Carlos Hidalgo, Mega 96.3 SVP of West Coast Programming, said, “Eddie One is that fresh sound we were looking for on Mega 96.3FM. Eddie is an incredible entertainer who embodies Latinx, Reggaeton-Urban culture, music, and community all in one! We are very excited to have him back on our team.”
