Eric Johnson On The Loose
• RAMP has confirmed that longtime Beasley veteran Eric Johnson has exited as PD and midday talent at Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK/Philadelphia as his position is eliminated. Johnson was also programming WJBR.com and doing middays on Classic Hits WROR/Boston. Johnson initially broke the news of his unscheduled departure on Facebook.
Johnson joined Beasley as Director of Sports Content for Sports-Talk WPEN (97.5 The Fanatic)/Philadelphiain December 2017, following a 19-year run as PD of Townsquare Talk WKXW (New Jersey 101.5)/Trenton, NJ. He left the company in Nov. 2019 and returned the following June as PD of AC WJBR/Wilmington DEuntil it was sold in 2023. That same year he was awarded middays on WMGK, and was elevated to the PD post in early 2024. Earlier in his career Johnson worked in Philadelphia as APD of Sports-Talk WIP-FM and Program Director of the late WPLY (Y100).
RAMP reached out to Johnson, who told us, “I’m very proud of the work at WMGK, as the goal was to improve the station’s 25-54 performance from top 10 to top 5 — which we did. We also improved the female numbers, and the 18-34 was always top three. I think that’s a remarkable feat for a Classic Rock station!” Looking ahead, Johnson said, “I still have more radio to give! And I hope I have that opportunity again soon. I really loved my job at WMGK, the people I worked with, and the listeners — I will miss them a lot.” Johnson can be reached at Eric.johnson4362@gmail.com.
