Fun With Frequency Modulation
• It’s moving day at iHeartMedia Atlanta, as Urban WRDG (96.7 The Beat) is moving up to 105.3 FM, becoming 105.3 The Beat, effective immediately. That frequency was the former home of Spanish Contemporary sibling WBZY (Z105.3), which recently moved up to 105.7, displacing Alternative WRDA (ALT 105.7). Got all that?
This relocation will allow a larger audience to enjoy the Premiere-syndicated The Breakfast Club in morning drive. The station will now run commercial-free each day after 10am ET with Ashley Young in middays, DJ Scream’s Hoodrich Radio in afternoon drive and Zach Boog at night.
PD Dan Hunt said, “We’re excited for the opportunity to rebuild The Beat from the ground up, and continue to represent the Urban music culture with a sound unique to Atlanta. Atlanta’s music lovers will get to listen to the most prolific voices in Hip Hop radio today, including The Breakfast Club and DJ Scream.”
• And in Greenville, SC, Entercom announced the further expansion of Conservative News-Talk WYRD (106.3 WORD) to 95.1 FM. The addition of this new frequency extends WYRD’s coverage to Pickens County and into Oconee County, blanketing towns like Seneca, Pickens and Clemson for the first time. WYRD’s programming has also been carried on 101.5 (W270AM) in Anderson County since 2019.
“106.3 WORD serves a vital role as the Upstate’s trusted source of information,” said Steve Sinicropi, SVP/Market Manager, Entercom Greenville-Spartanburg. “We are thrilled to expand the over-the-air signal for 106.3 WORD to Pickens and much of Oconee County on 95.1 FM during this critical time in which demand for live and local news and talk is rapidly rising. This expansion allows us to maximize our reach in the region and more broadly meet the needs of our listeners and advertisers.”
