Garett Michaels Named GM, KSER/Everett

• Everett, WA-based independent community radio station KSER 90.7 FM has tapped major market veteran Garett Michaels as its new General Manager. Michaels, who starts later this month, was selected by the KSER Foundation board of directors after a national search for a new leader.

For most of the past decade, Garett has served as Director of Rock Programming for Local Media San Diego and Program Director of heritage Alternative XETRA (91X) and former Adult Hits KFBG (100.7 BIG FM). Michaels’ San Diego radio roots date back to 2002 as the original and founding PD of KBZT (FM 94/9), a position he held for nearly a decade. However, he’s no stranger to the beautiful Pacific Northwest, thanks to earlier Seattle PD stops at KNDD (107.7 The End) and KYPT (96.5 The Point). Back in the day Michaels also programmed the late WHYT/WPLT (The Planet)/Detroit and WPLY (Y100)/Philadelphia.

Michaels says he’s looking forward to helping lead KSER, which next year will mark its 35th anniversary. “Having lived in the Puget Sound region twice over the last 25 years, I have a deep love and appreciation for the culture, lifestyle and natural beauty of the area,” Michaels said. “As a big fan and supporter of public media, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to transition to this side of the broadcast industry, and I’m honored to serve as the next General Manager of KSER. The passion and dedication of the staff, and the many KSER volunteers is inspiring. I cannot wait to join them in the mission to enrich the communities we serve across Snohomish County and Whidbey Island.”

Michaels succeeds Tom Clendening, who retired this spring after 13 years as KSER’s GM. Steve Ward, longtime Program Director of KSER, has served as interim GM in recent weeks.
