Griffin Tulsa Adds & Upgrades
• There is a palpable buzz in the air in the hallways of the Griffin Communications’ broadcast complex in Tulsa, OK, as the company celebrates 1) The hire of a popular market legend, and 2) Two important in-house promotions. Let’s start with the hire of Tulsa radio icon Dave “Wavy Davy” Michaels, who joins Griffin Classic Hits KBEZ (92.9 The Drive) as PD and afternoon personality
Michaels (left) joined crosstown Cox Media Group in 1995 and served as Production Manager for CMG Tulsa, but gained fame as “Wavy Davy” during his run on Classic Rock rival KJSR (103.3 The Eagle). He’s also much sought-after voice talent and is the station/promo voice for 10 radio and TV stations across America. Michaels has also been a successful OM, PD, MD and consultant to stations throughout Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas. “Dave’s experience, well-loved personality and voice talents make him an invaluable addition to our team,” said Steve Hunter, Director of Operations for Griffin Radio Tulsa. “We’re looking forward to seeing his work in action here at The Drive.
Meanwhile, within the existing Griffin family, Tanner Messer and Nikki Reid are both promoted to full-time positions — Messer (center) is now doing afternoons on Classic Country KXBL (Big Country 99.5) and 7-midnight on Country KVOO. His addition allows KVOO to now be live in all major dayparts. Messer is a talented producer who spent the past year working in the KVOO promotions department and assisting with video production and on-air work. He previously served as a videographer with Tyler Media.
Nikki Reid (right) is now doing afternoons on 98.5 KVOO and 7-midnight on Top 40 KHTT (K-Hits 106.9). Reid has been doing weekends and fill-in shifts on K-Hits and KVOO since September 2018. Many Tulsa listeners previously heard her talents on KVOO’s afternoon shift or as “Nikki at Night” on K-Hits. “We’re thrilled to have both Tanner and Nikki join us full time to provide their extensive experience for Griffin Communications listeners and advertisers,” said Hunter. “Their contributions so far have been invaluable and look forward to their lively addition to our radio stations.”
