Howard Delays His Big Announcement

• Tuesday, Sept. 2 was supposed to be the day when Howard Stern would return from his summer hiatus and address the rampant speculation regarding his future with SiriusXM, as his current five-year deal, signed in 2020, expires at the end of this year. However, around 8am ET on Tuesday, the show posted this revised image to his social media, effectively pushing his announcement back a week, to next Monday, Sept. 8.

No reason was given for the delay; however, as Showbiz 411 theorizes, “Maybe just to play out the drama for a few more days. Or maybe the contract hasn’t been ironed out completely.”

As Deadline noted, “Last year, SiriusXM’s [Pres. & Chief Content Officer] Scott Greenstein said on an earnings call, ‘As for Howard, he’s a singular talent. No one pretended when Johnny Carson or others retired that the new group would replace them. They were just simply filling in on those slots. So, Howard, we hope he continues forever.'” Until then… we wait…
