iHeart ATL Swaps Power & The Beat
• iHeartMedia Atlanta made two concurrent format moves at noon today, swapping the programming of Top 40 WWPW (Power 96.1) and Urban WRDG (105.3 The Beat), giving The Beat the more powerful 96.1 signal and relaunching the station as 96.1 The Beat. At the same time, the Top 40 programming has a new home on WRDG, licensed to suburban Bowdon, GA. Say hello to the new Power 105.3.
“I’m thrilled to announce The Beat Just Got Bigger!” said PD Vladimir Scott. “96.1 The Beat is the new home for Hip Hop, R&B and The Breakfast Club! Heard all over the A-T-L. By switching to a more expansive frequency, we’re not just amplifying the sound of Hip Hop and R&B in Atlanta — we’re amplifying the voices and stories of our community reaching even more listeners in Metro Atlanta. This enhanced reach gives our amazing on air talent a larger platform to connect with listeners and celebrate the culture that defines Atlanta.”
“What an extraordinary opportunity!” said Spencer Bynes, iHeartMedia Atlanta Metro President. “Atlanta has a robust and flourishing economic business environment, a fascinating community of people from every part of the world and an incredible music culture and heritage. This expansion signifies a powerful connection with the community, and 96.1 The Beat is poised to become the heartbeat of Hip Hop and R&B in Atlanta.”
The Beat’s weekday on-air line starts with The Breakfast Club from 5:30-10am, followed by Way Up with Angela Yee in middays, Ferrari Simmons in afternoon drive, The JoJo & Big Homie Show from 7-midnight, and Shay Diddy in overnights.
