Internet Can’t Contain PULSE 87
• PULSE 87, New York’s popular Dance station, which has lived online for more than 13 years, is about to add a heaping helping of frequency modulation to the menu, as the format returns to the air in New York’s beautiful Hudson Valley on 88.1 WJZZ/Montgomery, NY.
PULSE 87 is known for playing the biggest dance hits and remixes from superstars around the globe, and has been a leader in breaking new music and artists, from Lady Gaga, Bebe Rexha and Dua Lipa to Chainsmokers, David Guetta and Tiesto, to name a few.
The station is owned and programmed by veteran New York programmer Joel Salkowitz (pictured), who famously launched HOT 97/New York back in the day and is a key architect of the Dance/CHR format. Under his command, PULSE 87 became America’s most-listened-to Top 40/EDM station, and New York, PULSE 87 was able to achieve a weekly cume of more than 1 million, despite the challenges of a remote dial position and limited signal.
Now, with PULSE 87 expanding to FM, Salkowitz has engaged the talents of veteran promotion executive Valerie DeLong and her company, MOXY Entertainment to assist in marketing and artist/label relations. “Valerie has been both a longtime business associate and friend,” Salkowitz said. “What makes her such a perfect fit for this job is her relationships with both the radio and the record label communities.
