J1 Packing For DC
• Radio One DC has hired Joshua “J1” Raiford as the new Program Director of Urban WKYS, effective Monday, July 17. That is one seriously fast track for J1, who last November was named PD of Radio One Urban WHHH (Hot 96.3) and Classic Hip Hop Boom 102.9/Indianapolis. He began his career with Radio One Atlanta, starting out as an intern and Mix Show Coordinator for WHTA (Hot 107.9) and rose to APD/air personality.
In making the announcement, Kashon Powell, Operations Manager of Radio One DC said, “J1 is a great addition to our team here in DC. His knowledge, passion, and drive make him the perfect choice to lead WKYS.”
Originally from Harlem, NY, J1 earned his Bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College and his Master’s from Georgia State University. Looking ahead to his new challenge, J1 remarked, “I’m humbled, honored and excited about this great opportunity. I thank God first and foremost, and I would also like to thank Jay Stevens, Jeff Wilson and Kashon Powell for selecting me for this tremendous responsibility.” J1 replaces Neke House, who exited May 22.
• Meanwhile, back in Indy… Radio One is now seeking an Operations Manager to oversee WHHH, Boom 102.9, Urban AC WTLC and Inspirational WTLC-AM (AM 1310 The Light). This person will work closely with Kelly Mac, PD of WTLC-FM & AM.
The OM position is posted on the Urban One Careers page, and candidates are also urged to send packages to VP of Programming Colby Colb at ctyner@radio-one.com.
