Jack Harris Out At WFLA/Tampa

• The Tampa Bay Times is reporting that Jack Harris, a fixture at iHeartMedia Conservative Talk 970 WFLA/Tampa Bay off and on for the past 53 years, and the host of AM Tampa Bay, weekdays from 5-7am has been terminated.

As the 81-year-old Harris related to the Times, “After I signed off from my show at 7am today, iHeartRadio bosses told me that they were cutting back on expenses and had to let me go.” He added, “I didn’t think I was that big of a burden on them. I was making a seventh of what I made three or four years ago.”

Harris first joined WFLA in 1970 and enjoyed three tours of duty with the station since then — 1970-74; 1975-85, and his most recent 29-year run that came to an abrupt halt on Wednesday, March 29.

Harris says he was shocked by management’s decision and wished that they’d given him one more show to say goodbye to his fans. “Just tell them that they have been great to me over the years,” he said. “They are what I will miss most.”
