Jacksonville Wakes Up With Dex & Barbie
• CMG’s heritage Top 40 95.1 WAPE/Jacksonville announces the impending arrival of the station’s new morning show — The Dex and Barbie T Morning Show launches Monday at 6am. They succeed The Ape’s previous wake-up duo of Meghan Lane and Austen Lane (no relation), who recently exited.
Dex Mitchell and Barbie T. Whitmire are inbound from mornings at SummitMedia Rhythmic WHZT (Hot 98.1)/Greenville, SC. “Dex and Barbie T are a fantastic addition to the Jacksonville market,” said Jud Heussler, Director of Branding & Programming. “I know our listeners will love the energy and chemistry that these two bring to will bring to WAPE every morning!” OM Jules Riley concurs, commenting, “An outstanding morning team is built on creativity, drive, and connection — and that is exactly what Dex and Barbie T deliver. Whitmore (right) has spent her entire ten-year career at WHZT, previously hosting mornings with Tone Hollywood and Mike Klein prior to Mitchell’s arrival. Before joining WHZT, Mitchell (left) worked at Saga Hot AC WOXL (Mix 96.5)/Asheville, NC, Galaxy Communications WKRL/WKLL/WKRH (K-Rock)/Syracuse-Utica, NY and Audacy’s WTPT (93.3 The Planet)/Greenville.
Dex & Barbie first teamed up July 2017 at WHZT, and by 2019, the show was syndicated to SummitMedia Knoxville. During that same time, Whitmire was also handling middays at WHZT, while Mitchell was also tracking afternoons at SummitMedia Hot AC WPYA (Mix 97.3)/Birmingham and remotely co-hosted a second morning show at sister KPHW (Power 104.3)/Honolulu with Candace Kay from 2020 through Jan. 2022.
