Jay Michaels Named PD of KGSR/Austin
• Programming pro Jay Michaels is headed back to Austin, Texas, hired by Waterloo Media as PD of Hot AC KGSR (Star 93.3), effective immediately. The move reunites Michaels with his former employer, owner & friend Bob Sinclair, Scott Gillmore & the entire staff in Austin.
Michaels commented, “Working with Bob & the people at Waterloo I’ve known & respected for many years is like coming home & an incredible opportunity where I started in radio — I’m ready! Being a family man and close to family, friends and one of the strongest companies in the country is an incredible opportunity that takes me home.”
Michaels heads south from Omaha, where he has worked for NRG Media since last October as PD of Hot AC KQKQ (Sweet 98.5), Rhythmic KOPW (Power 106.9) and Adult Hits KOOO (101.9 The Keg).
Sinclair said, “Jay is absolutely one the hardest working, smartest, and with-it people I have ever known. We are lucky to have him back in Austin. I am also very lucky to have Krash Kelly, who started Star 93.3 for us and will continue to lead Bob-FM, quite possibly the most ratings dominant radio station in America for the last 15 years.” Waterloo Media SVP/Market Manager Scott Gillmore notes, “It’s rare that you get to work with someone as talented as Jay twice in the same market. I’m thrilled that he’s re-joining our team in Austin!”
The move really is a homecoming for Michaels, who formerly programmed 93.3/Austin back when it was Sinclair-owned Rhythmic KDHT (Hot 93.3). His lengthy radio resume also includes stints in Dallas at KVIL and KJKK (100.3 Jack FM), as well as KDMX & KDGE. He has also worked at KHFI/Austin and KRBE/Houston. Earlier in his career Michaels worked for Sinclair as OM of WROX & WUSH/Norfolk, VA.
