Kansas City Hill Climb
• Looks like a perfect match — veteran programmer Dave Hill just arrived in Kansas City as the newly minted PD of Cumulus Media’s heritage Classic Rock KCFX (101 The Fox). In making the big announcement, Donna Baker, Regional Vice President/Market Manager of Cumulus Kansas City, commented, “Dave’s history of leading great talent and teams to the highest level of winning is inspiring. This is the next exciting step in our growth of the iconic rock brand that is 101 The Fox.”
She’s not kidding — Hill was most recently SVP of Programming for iHeartMedia Indianapolis and PD of Classic Rock WFBQ (Q95), and WOLT (ALT 103.3) until last November. Before that he programmed iHeartMedia Classic Rock WBGG (Big 105.9)/Miami and served as SVP of Programming for iHeart’s Portland, OR group. Most people probably remember Hill for his 12-year sun as Operations Manager of Hearst Television’s WIYY (98Rock) & News-Talk WBAL-AM/Baltimore, and his earlier programming stops include WQBK (The Edge)/Albany, NY and WMRQ/Hartford.
For Dave Hill, the adventure began in 1994 as Programming Asst./on-air talent at the late WNNX (99X)Atlanta, where his first PD was… wait for it… Brian Philips, now Cumulus EVP of Content & Audience, who said, “Dave Hill impressed us with his pure programming creativity and vivid imagination. The Fox rules Classic Rock in KC, but we don’t take our legacy for granted. Dave’s fresh perspective and rich experience will help keep us on top.”
Hill commented, “What a score! Most of my favorite things in one place — a legendary Classic Rock station with a pro staff, competition BBQ, and a football town all wrapped into one gig! Thanks to Donna Baker, Doug Hamand, Troy Hanson and Brian Philips for giving me the opportunity to take the helm of KCFX.” Hill succeeds Dan McClintock, who exited last month after a seven-year stint.
