Kennedy Retires From Retirement
• Entercom has managed to coax Kansas City radio icon Mike Kennedy out of “retirement,” hiring him as the new OM/PD of Country WDAF (106.5 The Wolf) and Hot AC KZPT (99.7 The Point)/Kansas City, effective immediately.
“It’s fantastic to welcome a seasoned, celebrated and successful programmer like Mike Kennedy to the Entercom Kansas City team,” said Dave Alpert, Regional President and Market Manager, Entercom Kansas City. “Mike is a natural winner and we are looking forward to him leading The Wolf and The Point to new levels of success.”
Kennedy comes fully equipped with 40 years of broadcast experience; 30 of those well spent in the Kansas City market, primarily in programming and on-air for Steel City Media Country KBEQ (Q104) from 1991 to 2017, followed by a consultant role from 2017 to 2018. During that time, Kennedy also owned and operated KXBZ-FM/Manhattan, KS.
Kennedy arrived in Kansas City in 1988 to work for former Rock 40 KXXR and joined KBEQ in 1991. Two years later Kennedy oversaw KBEQ’s flip from Top 40 to Country as PD and as a member of the hugely successful Mike, Zeke and Jillian morning show. In September of 2015, Kennedy relinquished his on-air duties to focus on his programming responsibilities, serving as VP of Programming &b Operations for Wilks Broadcasting and Steel City Media Kansas City from 2007 to 2017. During his stellar four-decade career, Kennedy has received numerous industry awards and was inducted into the Country Radio Hall of Fame and the Kansas Association Broadcasters Hall of Fame. In 2014 Kennedy was selected by the Kansas City Media for its “Legend” award and inducted into the Kansas Association of Broadcasters Radio Hall of Fame.
Kennedy commented, “106.5 The Wolf and 99.7 The Point deliver exceptional content to their listeners on a daily basis and I look forward to joining the team. I’m especially excited to continue my career in my hometown.”
