KERA Taps Garcia As Host Of ‘Morning Edition’
• North Texas NPR affiliate KERA/Dallas-Ft. Worth is excited to announce Andrew Garcia is joining KERA News 90.1 as the local host of Morning Edition, highlighting the most important stories from NPR and KERA News.
“We are very excited to welcome Andrew,” said Jeff Penfield, Program Director of KERA News. “He has a true passion for public radio and its essential services. I think North Texans are going to hear and feel that every morning.”
Garcia grew up in California’s Central Valley and discovered public radio shortly after receiving his first car, listening to Morning Edition, This American Life, and Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me. “I’ve seldom moved that dial ever since,” he said. Garcia went on to serve as a volunteer and professional advisor for KSSU, the student-run radio station at Cal State University-Sacramento. Most recently, Garcia served as the Midday Anchor for Cap Radio in Sacramento.
“I’m so excited to join the KERA team,” said Garcia. “Joining the listeners of North Texas on their morning commutes is a real honor. I hope to be your friendly, trustworthy guide through the news of the day in our nation, our world and North Texas.”
Garcia will be heard weekday mornings from 5:30-10am, beginning Monday, May 13, joining an experienced team that includes Sr. Editor & Host, Sam Baker; Midday Host & Technical Director, Bella Syrus; Morning Producer & Podcast Host, Katherine Hobbs; All Things Considered Host & Board Op Justin Martin; and Afternoon Newscaster & Producer, Rebekah Morr.
