KEXP/Seattle Schedule Remixed
• Seattle-based public broadcaster and music discovery nonprofit KEXP announced details of its ambitious schedule change, effective Sept. 13 — as was previously announced, Eva Walker, currently the host of KEXP’s local music program Audioasis, will take over permanent hosting duties for Early, weekdays from 5-7am PT, as current Early host Gabriel Teodros steps away from KEXP to pursue his own music and educational work.
Michele Myers and Vitamin D will take over hosting Variety Mix programming — Myers will shift from her Friday night timeslot to Tuesday nights from 10pm-1am, and Vitamin D will shift from Street Sounds to Variety Mix Thursday nights from 10pm-1am.
Three new specialty programs will go live starting Wednesday, Sept. 13: Astral Plane, a journey through a kaleidoscopic world of psychedelic sounds, Wednesdays from 7-10pm PT, hosted by DJ Jewel; Eastern Echoes, celebrating Asian artists who are shaping the future while honoring the roots that ground them, Thursdays from 7-10pm, hosted by Diana Ratsamee; and Sounds of Survivance, which will feature global indigenous music from a variety of genres, live Mondays from 3-5am, anchored by rotating hosts Tory Johnston (Quinault) and Kevin Sur (Kānaka Maoli).
More changes are also coming to current KEXP specialty and genre shows — Lace Cadence will bring his Afrobeats mix to Friday nights, 7-10pm, with The Continent, highlighting Afrobeats and other African pop sounds. Street Sounds, KEXP’s long-running hip-hop show, welcomes back host Stas THEE Boss, joining DJ Yaddy for rotating host duties. Mechanical Breakdown with DJ Sharlese will add an hour and move to l1-3am Fridays following Street Sounds; Audioasis welcomes new host Kennady Quille, Saturdays from 6-9pm. The Roadhouse with Greg Vandy rolls Sundays from 9am-noon, replacing Preachin’ the Blues, and Prometheus Brown (Geo Quibuyen), best known as the vocalist half of Seattle duo Blue Scholars, will join KEXP as a fill-in host across a number of programs. New rotating co-hosts for Jazz Theater and Wo’Pop will be announced soon. Complete details are posted at kexp.org.
