Kirshbaum-Saga Saga Headed For Home
• The long running legal issues of Randi Kirshbaum vs. Saga Communications are finally headed for a resolution, as both parties have agreed to participate in a settlement conference in three weeks.
Let us briefly recap — Kirshbaum notably spent nearly four decades with Saga’s Portland Radio Group in Portland, ME, during that time serving in the multiple roles of Program Director of Hot AC WMGX (Coast 93.1), PD/afternoons on Triple A WCLZ, and middays on Country WPOR.
In May 2020, during the height of the pandemic, and after working remotely for six weeks, Kirshbaum says she was terminated (which Saga denied) when she declined to return to the building, citing health reasons. At the time she said, “Due to a serious medical condition that would make contracting COVID-19 very dangerous, if not fatal for me, my doctor has recommended that I continue to work from home in order to avoid exposure. I am not willing to ignore my doctor’s guidance and put my health in jeopardy.”
Now, after several years of legal back-and-forth, RAMP has learned that Saga and Kirshbaum have agreed to participate in a settlement conference on Wednesday, April 3 before U.S. Magistrate Judge John C. Nivison at the U.S. District Courthouse in Bangor, ME.
RAMP reached out to Kirshbaum’s attorney, David G. Webbert, who commented, “Now that the Court has ruled against Saga’s motion to dismiss claims, Ms. Kirshbaum has agreed to participate in a judicial settlement conference. We are lucky to have superb Judges in Maine who regularly help mediate cases to reach a fair resolution that is much quicker than going through the entire legal process of a trial and an appeal.”
Kirshbaum, who continues to work remotely from her Maine home, currently does Sunday middays and provides daily Music News Reports on Hubbard Triple A 98.9 KPNW/Seattle, does evenings on Northeast Broadcasting Triple A WXRV (92.5 The River)/Boston and middays on sister WNCS (The Point)/Montpelier-Burlington, VT.
