Kitty Kinnin Turns The Page
• Sending our best wishes to 40-year industry pro/voiceover artist Kitty Kinnin, best known and loved as “the golden voice of Triangle radio,” who last week stepped down from her midday post after a decade of service with Curtis Media Adult Hits WBBB (96.1 BBB)/Raleigh and began her next chapter — retirement.
Kinnin was first introduced to radio while answering phones at a local station in Gainesville, FL while attending college. She landed her first radio job as an assistant at WKZL/Greensboro, and soon talked her way onto the radio after a jock quit — and she went on to host nights and produce A Touch of Jazz. In 1985, Kitty moved to Raleigh and began a 13-year stint at WRDU “The Original Home of Rock & Roll,” hosting middays and the popular Sunday Jazz Brunch show. The latter is when she started interviewing local chefs. An avid cook herself, Kitty’s former husband was a chef and owned a restaurant in Winston-Salem.
Elsewhere in the Raleigh-Durham market, Kitty worked at WZZU, WFXC (Foxy 107/104) and 90.7 WNCU. She later spent time in Wilmington, NC as TV anchor for The Hometown Show at WWAY-TV and on-air at Triple A WUIN (The Penguin).
In a social post, WBBB said, “Today we say farewell to a true Triangle radio legend, Kitty Kinnin, as she turns off the mic and heads into a well-earned retirement after 40 incredible years on the air. Kitty’s voice, warmth, and wit have been part of the soundtrack of this community for decades. She’s shared your workday, your drives, your laughs, and your stories, and she’s done it all with heart, soul, and a whole lot of style. From everyone at 96.1 BBB, thank you, Kitty, for the music, the memories, and the magic.”
WBBB PD Sammy Simpson tells RAMP that he will assume command of the midday shift, starting today.
