Larry Martino Retires From KKLZ/Las Vegas
• It’s the end of the “Larry Martino Era” in Las Vegas, as Martino has retired as APD/MD/afternoon talent at Beasley Classic Hits 96.3 KKLZ/Las Vegas, closing the book on 17 years with the station and 25 years with the company.
Martino, a 2001 inductee into the Nevada Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame, joined KKLZ in 2007 after working at former sister KSTJ (Star 102.7) and KJMZ (94.1 Jamz). Martino earlier programmed KGGI/Riverside, the former KQXR (Q94)/Bakersfield and the late WZKS (96 Kiss)/Nashville.
A tribute to Martino posted to 963kklz.com reads, in part, “We want to thank Larry for his dedication and hard work throughout the years. He had taught us so much and had made 96.3 KKLZ a special station. We’re proud to have worked and learned from Larry. This is not goodbye but a ‘see you later!'”
KKLZ PD/morning co-host Mike O’Brian said of Martino, “After spending 17-18 years programming with Larry Martino, you find out he is an incredible talent, has an amazing work ethic and is a true radio pro who made KKLZ that much better!”
In the wake of Martino’s departure, the KKLZ afternoon shift is now being tracked by Geno Knight, who also does afternoons at Classic Hits sisters WROR/Boston and WRBQ (Q105)/Tampa.
